2008 World Series of Poker World Championship Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em Event 25
The 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $10 000 World Championship Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em (Event 25) was held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from Friday, 13 June to Sunday, 15 June, 2008. This was only the second time this event had been included on the World Series of Poker calendar.
The World Championship Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em, Event 25 at the 39th World Series of Poker, saw a field of 256 poker players competing for the bragging rights as the one-on-one world champion for 2008. With a prize pool of over $2.4 million, the heads-up event promised a sizeable pot for the winner, not to mention the chance to pick up a WSOP winner’s bracelet.
Due to the single elimination tournament format with no bye rounds, the field had to be capped at 256, with the eventual champion needing to win nine heads-up matches.
The final day saw the top four players compete in the semi-final matches, before Kenny Tran and Alec Torelli faced off in a “best of three” final for the gold bracelet.
Some of poker’s top players finished in the money at the 2008 World Series of Poker World Championship Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em Event 25, including Michael Mizrachi (12th), Erick Lindgren (18th), Chris Ferguson (51st) and Juan Carlos Mortensen (64th)
