2008 World Series of Poker World Championship Seven-Card Stud Event 14

The 2008 World Series of Poker $10 000 World Championship Seven-Card Stud Event 14 took place from Saturday, 07 June to Monday, 09 June 2008 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

There were 158 entrants to Event 14, the Seven-Card Stud World Championship, which offered a total prize pool of almost $1.5 million.

The star-studded field was packed with a host of famous poker names and the 16 In-the-Money finishers at the World Championship Seven-Card Stud event included:

  • Five-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, Phil Ivey, who earned $37 130 after being eliminated on the final table bubble in 9th place
  • 2004 Player of the Year, Daniel Negreanu, in 11th
  • Alexander Kravchenko in 13th
  • Robert Mizrachi in 14th

The Bracelet Winner

48-year-old amateur player Eric Brooks picked up his first World Series of Poker winner’s bracelet in Event 14, along with a first prize of $415 856 (which he donated to charity). He beat Fu Wong in heads-up play with a running flush, against Wong’s three of a kind, to be crowned poker’s Seven-Card Stud world champion.

Brooks’ victory in the World Championship Seven-Card Stud event at the 2008 World Series of Poker was the first time he had even finished in the money at a major tournament.
