9 November 2008 WSOP Final Table: The ‘November Nine’ Profiles

1.       Dennis Phillips

Stack Size:  $26,295,000 Hometown:  St. Louis, Missouri Nickname: Fordman

As the cheap leader moving into the final table, 53-year old Philips is obviously a strong candidate to win the 2008 WSOP Main Event. Phillips is the oldest player to be seated at the table. He works for a truck company and gained entry to the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event by winning a WSOP satellite at Harrahs Casino in his hometown.

2.       Ivan Demidov

Stack Size:  $24,400,000 Hometown:  Moscow, Russia
This 27-year old is the only Russian to make it to the final table. Although he plays poker professionally, 2008 is his first year to enter the WSOP.  His luck is running strong and he has already taken some money this year by placing 11th in Event 44 – the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’Em with rebuys.

When he isn’t seated at the poker table, Demidov likes skiing and scuba diving.

3.       Scott Montgomery

Stack Size:  $19,690,000 Hometown:  Perth, Ontario

2008 has certainly been kind to this 26-year old Canadian: A 5th place finish at the WPT LA Poker Classic as well as finishing in the money in three events at the 2008 WSOP. With another chance to take home a few million, Scott Montgomery is praying his luck will hold up.

Montgomery has been playing poker professionally for 4 years.

4.       Peter Eastgate

Stack Size:  $18,375,000 Hometown:  Odense, Denmark

The 22-year old Dane is the youngest player at the final table. If he takes home the bracelet, he will take over the title from Phil Hellmuth as the youngest player to win the WSOP. Eastgate is a professional poker player and plays mostly online games.

5.       Ylon Schwartz

Stack Size:  $12,525,000 Hometown:  Brooklyn, New York, USA

With twelve WSOP money finishes, the carefree 38-year old has cashed more than any of the other poker players at the table. He has already cashed at the 2008 WSOP by finishing 15th in the $2,000 buy-in Limit Hold’Em event. Ylon Schwartz has been playing professional poker for eight years.

His master plan to prepare for the 9th of November is summed up eloquently in his own words: "I’m going to get a hammock and a bottle of tequila and that’ll be that."

6.       Darus Suharto

Stack Size:  $12,525,000 Hometown:  Toronto, Ontario, Canada

This Indonesian-born accountant has cashed before at the 2006 WSOP.  The 39-year old amateur won a seat through a satellite tournament.

7.       David Rheem

Stack Size:  $10,230,000 Hometown:  Los Angeles, California Nickname:  Chino

Rheem is the most well known of this relatively obscure table of players. He is done well in other WSOP events by placing fifth in the 2008 WSOP $5,000 Mixed Event and finishing second and winning $327,9891 at the 2006 WSOP $1,000 NLHE Event.

8.       Craig Marquis

Stack Size:  $10,210,000 Hometown:  Arlington, Texas

Like Peter Eastgate, this 23-year old student also stands a chance of walking home as the youngest WSOP Main Event winner.  Marquis had two small cashes at the 2007 WSOP.

9.       Kelly Kim

Stack Size:  $2,620,000 Hometown:  Whittier, California

Nursing a very short stack, Kelly Kim will need a bit of help from Lady Luck to make his dream of winning come true. The 31-year old Indonesian is a professional poker player who cashed three times during the 2007 WSOP.
