Boris Becker to face four Battleship Poker challengers in Bahamas
Former professional tennis player and Wimbledon champion Boris Becker is taking his professional poker career to the next level. Becker will challenge four North American qualifiers in a heads-up Battleship-style match during the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Paradise Island Casino in the Bahamas.
Battleship heads-up poker is a novel concept that is becoming increasingly popular in the poker world. The format involves two players playing heads-up – with a twist. Each player uses a laptop during the match, using an online poker room as the arena for the batltle.
This format results in faster Internet style play, whilst players are still able to scan their live opponents for live tells.
"Battleship poker gives you all the fast play luxuries of online poker, but also allows you to look your opponent in the eye," Becker told Casino City Times. "It's an exciting game to play and I'm really looking forward to competing against these players."
Becker will come up against Itsik Oknin, Joshua Miloy, Keith Anderson and Michel Dion during the Battleship tournament. The tournament forms part of the annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) series of tournaments, the second largest collection of poker tournaments in North America.
