Poker Rule Variations
There are various
poker rule variations for the different games. Here are some of the more common
variants played:
Limit Poker
Limit Texas Hold'em was
by far the most popular ring game structure before the poker television explosion. In limit games,
players are confined to predetermined betting increments.
The limit of the game determines the amount that can be wagered. In a $1-2
game, the bets will be $1 and $2, and so on.
Before and on the flop,
the bet/raise increment is the small bet, whereas on the turn and the river, it is the large bet.
Structured betting in Limit Texas Hold'em is better for new players because
individual mistakes only cost you a set amount.
Pot Limit
In Pot Limit Hold'em, the maximum bet allowed is the amount of money in the pot. If a player wants to raise, however, he or she must include the amount of your call into the pot.
No-Limit
No-Limit
Texas Hold'em is the game that determines the World Championship of Poker every
year at the World Series of Poker Main Event. It is the form of
poker most commonly seen on televised
tournaments. In No-Limit, there are very few betting restrictions that a
player must follow. You must bet the minimum of the big blind and when raising,
you must at least double the amount of the bet (or raise) of the previous
better. Other than those two restrictions, you can bet any or all your chips at
any time.
Spread Limit
Spread Limit is an uncommon poker game structure where players bet a fixed amount within a certain range, for instance between $3 and $8.
Lowball
Lowball poker variants reward traditionally poor hands. The three common variations differ in the use of high or low aces and whether straights and flushes are playable hands.
Razz is a form of lowball poker.
High-Low Split
In high-low split, the player with the best hand from usual poker hand rankings splits the pot with the best low hand.
There are various poker rule variations deciding the low hand and often a qualifier for low: for example, only 8 low or better would qualify.
