For many years, Wendeen Eolis has been a leader in the world of poker and a pioneer for women in poker competitions. Eolis is currently Vice-Chairperson of the World Poker Association and Chair of the International Players Advisory Council of the World Series of Poker.
She is a prominent member of the business community in her position as Chairwoman of Wendeen Eolis Enterprises, which she founded in 1969. This includes Eolis International Group (a legal/business/government affairs consultancy) and People Reading Strategies (a negotiation training consultancy founded by Eolis in 2006).
In 1974 Eolis became the first woman president of the Association of Personnel Consultants of New York (APCNY).
In 1984, she founded and served as the first president of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (NALSC).
Eolis is also Task Force Commander of Hope’s Champion, a disaster counselling programme formed following the events of 9/11.
Eolis’ published writings include articles for the New York Law Journal, Women’s Business of New York, Poker Player Newspaper and Bluff Magazine. She has also written a wealth of articles about the impact of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) and subsequent congressional proposals to reverse the UIGEA legislation.
World Series of Poker
Wendeen Eolis has finished in the money 6 times at the WSOP and in 1986 became the first woman ever to cash in the WSOP Main Event.
Eolis was also the first woman to do this twice, repeating the feat in 1993, and has cashed four times in the last 5 years at the World Series.
In 1996, the WSOP issued a commemorative chip recognising her "milestone" for women in poker and in 2006, Eolis was named on the WSOP Players Advisory Council.
Last year, WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack dubbed Eolis the "Grand Dame of Poker".
Other Poker Tournaments
Wendeen Eolis won the 1990 European Open No-Limit Hold’em competition, and has cashed in both the World Poker Tour and the US Poker Championship.
In 2004/5 Eolis was elected to the Professional Poker Tour.
